Ever been to a steampunk ball? I attended my first at the When Words Collide<\/a> conference in Calgary in August of 2016 and I had a blast!<\/p>\n

My favorite is still Santa Barbara<\/a>, which I attended in 2014. Because I loved having my writing analyzed by a group of other writers. I met Randy McCharles at the Surrey International Writers Conference<\/a> back in 2012, and he told me about their fledgeling conference.<\/p>\n

There were weeks of preparation in building my hat (3 bucks from a shop in Sherwood Park. I embellished it with goggles I antiqued with Rub n Buff<\/a>, some tulle, and ribbon. Then, I found a cool set of rayguns at the Value Village<\/a>, more Rub n Buff, and made a nifty holster out of some faux leather).<\/p>\n

Hubby and I drove down from Edmonton, and I got to do my<\/em> thing. He got to catch up with an old art school friend from the Alberta College of Art and Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Helped attendees with Blue Pencil appointments, did a reading from The Forgottten Flapper<\/em><\/a>, and participated in my very first panels. I also sold a couple of copies of The Forgotten Flapper through Owl’s Nest Books<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Especially fun was the “Ghost of a Chance” panel on Friday, with E.C. Bell<\/a>, Mark Leslie (Lefebvre)<\/a>, and S.G. Wong<\/a>. We shared ghost stories, real and imagined.<\/p>\n

I got to meet lots of super friendly fellow writers, and got to be around my tribe. That’s always a good thing!<\/p>\n
